The middle is the most exciting part!

Come on admit it everyone loves Oreo filling, the cream in Twinkie bars, the jelly in jelly donuts and the hot and chewy marshmallow chocolaty center of campfire smores. So then, what better place to start than in the middle?

We’ve experienced August orientation, hurdled through 8:30 AM classes, toiled through midterms and finals, formed an everlasting bond with our retinoscopes, and have come out on the other side being proud to say that the class of 2015 has learned to hold a steady wink. (Don’t you dare laugh! It is an unimaginable accomplishment for those of you who haven’t yet had the experience of drawing cup to disc ratios)

Now, after 5 “interesting” months, we can finally say “Tis the season to be Jolly!” It’s Winter Break!!! Time to relax? Great. But we think we may have forgotten how. A whole 12 days off from Optometry school. Strangely, these once anticipated days of rest seem endless.

At this point, I just don’t know what to do with myself anymore. I can only stare at the ceiling for so long! So instead, I’ve organized all my post-finals paper mess and I can finally see my desk. In case you were wondering, I was that person purchasing binders and pens on Christmas Eve, I know PATHETIC. I’ve definitely caught up on sleep and indulged in the comfort of my bed (fyi: we’ve had a rocky relationship in the past couple of weeks). But now Christmas is over and I just feel the need to be productive (I will be kicking myself for saying this in 2 weeks time).

A couple of days ago I was searching through the student network forum and ran into a post from 2005 encouraging students to narrate their life in optometry school. So I thought this would be a great idea because:
1. I could stay connected with friends
2. It was either venting through a blog or speaking to a psychotherapist (Haha I’m kidding)
3. I could keep myself from browsing facebook and actually help someone out there that’s interested in what an optometry student goes through
4. I’m hoping to look back in 4 years and realize the amazing experience of attending SUNY-O.

Please make yourselves comfortable while I shine this light into your eye to get an estimate of your prescription. Don’t be alarmed your vision will get blurry, just keep staring at the green circle on the screen, and let me know if I ever get in the way of your target.
